On Tuesday, April 24 the students in the Digital Networks/Computer Systems class will take the CTE Computer Information Systems (CIS) test. We only have 7 class periods before you take the test. Please see the test preparation below and start taking the practice tests.
The CIS test is an important test for the Technology and Finance Department because test scores are used in determining how much funding we receive for our Technology and Finance programs for items such as new computers and field trips.
Passing Score:
A passing grade is 65. Every Digital Networks/Computer Systems student should aspire to get a passing grade.
Exempt from Final Exam
Those who score 65 or above will be exempt from taking the final exam. You will receive a grade for the Final exam that is equivalent to what you have achieved as an average grade for the year. For example if your average grade is 85 for the year and you score 65 on the CIS test, you will receive a grade of 85 for the Final Exam. Should your CIS score be greater than your average grade for the year, you will receive the CIS test grade as your grade for your Final Exam. Example: your average grade is 88 and you score 90 on the CTE, your Final Exam grade will be 90.
If you do not pass the CIS test, (you get a grade of 64 or less) you will need to take the final exam and your grade for the Final Exam will be whatever you score.
Standards included in the CIS Test Below are the standards included in the CIS Test *Describe the impact of technology on the knowledge and skills needed for success in the workplace. *Identify the purpose and care of all types of computers and components. *Identify examples of emerging hardware technologies. *Manage folders and files. *Identify and use appropriate help resources (e.g., help desks, online help, manuals) to install, configure, upgrade, diagnose, and repair operating systems and utilities *Develop proper input techniques (e.g., 10-key touch pad, scanning, digital cameras, and recognition of developing technologies, the use of a touch screen mouse or stylus, speech recognition, student response systems, digital inking, and any new emerging technology ) *Use a variety of input technologies to maximize productivity. *Create and present multi-media using word processing and presentation software. *Design, develop, and deliver advanced web content and applications using web design programs. *Design, create, and publish pages incorporating multi-media using various on-line template resources. *Create and utilize multimedia delivery tools (e.g., blogs, podcasting, webcasting). *Use word processing, desktop publishing, database, spreadsheet, presentation, and multimedia software to improve academic achievement across the curriculum. *Identify and explain programming structures. *Apply design principles to programming tasks. *Identify network devices, including connectivity hardware, and describe their functions. *Identify and discuss privacy issues within an organization. *Implement the procedures used to recover information from failures and security breaches. *Implement controls to prevent loss of integrity of data and other information resources. *Distinguish among network environments(e.g., peer-to-peer, client server, thin client, n-tier, Internetworks, intranets, extranets).
